Journal 7
- What global comments/suggestions did you find the best from your
peers? Why?
- I think the most helpful suggestion I had was to read my essay
aloud. Most of the comments included were about awkward sentence structure or a
typo, so just having the opportunity to look at the essay with fresh eyes is beneficial
to understanding what it is like for
someone else who does not have my ideas going into it.
- What were the best global comments/suggestions you offered your
peers? Why?
- My recommendations to my peers to make their thesis stronger and
more obvious was most beneficial because it in turn would help them have
something to connect their analysis to. Explaining how to analyze by connecting
quotes to the thesis was hopefully beneficial in helping them to understand how
to map out the essays and solidify their opinions.
- What important feedback/discussion points weren’t captured on
the page that came up during your discussion? Be specific and reference your
peers and their papers. You may benefit from looking back over the essays you
peer reviewed.
- One thing that my peers mentioned to me in person that they did
not write a lot about was working on my piece’s formatting. They mentioned
including in text citations for not only the Widdecombe piece, but also my own
work, which I had not previously considered.
- What did you wish had come up looking back over your peer review
comments?
- I wish my peers and I could have talked about more ways to
connect my thesis to my current life as a college student. Because I am talking
about larger scale issues, I don’t quite know how I can connect this to my
current lifestyle yet, and I would have liked to ask for some advice about
that.
- How does this kind of peer review compare to peer review from
high school?
- This kind of peer review was much more helpful than high school peer
review. Because the comments were more substantial, there was more constructive
criticism. Having these comments in front of us when discussing as a group, it
resulted in more direct and honest feedback as opposed to being scared of
hurting someone’s feelings because their essay is missing something. I want a
good essay, and this is much more helpful to getting there.
